Canadian DMCA stalled, won't be introduced (today, at least)!
Over the past couple weeks, we've rallied and sent thousands of letters and emails, called and shown up in person and in force at Industry Minister Jim Prentice's office. It worked. We have put a stake through this bill's heart. Next step: be prepared to cut its head off, fill its mouth full of garlic, and bury it at the crossroads.
Now this is a Hannukah present! Link (Thanks, Mike, Hub and Deb!)

LOL, yeah, driving a stake through the heart of it, and stuffing its mouth with garlic sounds good! Happy Hannukah indeed! :)
In Canada the Bad cops and bad polticans are related, for the Bad cops seem to sleep with the bad polticians.. and both seem to like to practise censorships.. under the disguise of enforcing the good laws..
I was surprised when I was arrested in the Calgary chief of police office for saying " you cops are dirty" charged with speaking out load in a public place and fined $250.00 for doing so by the judge next too.. while the useless judge also had said my right to make a complaint was Calgary suppressed but did nothing about the cops who did so.
The RCMP says that "The reality was we were just doing our job " poorly, as usual... and lies, PR is still the general RCMP approach to cover up their own negative realities. The RCMP said the force does not target individuals or groups for investigation on the basis of religion, ethnicity, political belief, race, sex or age. .. for it still wrongfully abuses anyone... There is no doubt also that the still much needed independent civilian oversight can have a dramatic good impact on the culture of a police department. Well where is it? I know this firsthand the bad cops and bad Politicans they in Canada do not like my right of free speech and have wrongfully tried to stop me using it..
RCMP deputy commissioner accused of misleading a parliamentary committee
OTTAWA - The RCMP boss has not ruled out disciplinary action in the case of a deputy commissioner accused of misleading a parliamentary committee. Commissioner William Elliott says the force will look at the committee's findings on the matter of Barbara George's testimony and take action if warranted. A defiant George told MPs on the committee she in no way tried to mislead or lie to them earlier this year during their probe of the force's pension and insurance scandal. George says the answers she gave in February were "honest and accurate" based on what she knew at the time. George was recently reinstated by the force following an eight-month suspension over alleged actions and statements related to the scandal investigation. MPs on the committee expressed concern George was given back her job while they were still considering the issue of whether she misled them.
Another person wrote that "Once again proving that the RCMP is rotten to the core and is only interested in protecting their fellow gang members. Disband the RCMP and lets be done with them. Personally I won't be happy until the only RCMP uniforms to be found will be in a museum next to the other dinosaurs. "
Sadly it seems many of the professional regualting societies behave that way as well.. and is another reason fully independent reviews are required for them all too.
"OTTAWA -- Karlheinz Schreiber insisted Tuesday he was never interviewed by the RCMP before the former Liberal government apologized to Brian Mulroney and paid him $2.1-million in taxpayers' money to settle a defamation suit. Asked by NDP MP Thomas Mulcair on the Commons ethics committee whether the RCMP interviewed him before the 1997 settlement was given to the former prime minister, Mr. Schreiber responded: "It's a joke because if they would have spoken to me, they would have heard the same thing you heard today and there would have been no settlement, the answer is no."Mr. Mulcair noted an RCMP spokesperson had said after earlier testimony that "in fact you had been spoken to," adding there had only been some confusion about the dates of the interviews.Mr. Schreiber, appearing utterly certain of himself, shot back: "If the RCMP would have asked me, I would have said the same thing I said to you -- how could there ever have been a settlement? I don't know what this is all about. There was not one word from nobody ... I'm surprised that the RCMP lies again."
Surprised that the RCMP lies.. not me... most of the time I have dealt personally with the RCMP in 2 provinces, Alberta and Quebec, they lied to me, about me too.. no I am not surprised.. lawyers lie often, Bell Sympatico lies, often, accountants lie often, too many spouses lie in their divorce applications too, and so do much too many tax evaders, they must have all learned from the Progressive Conservatives too..
So what is the rather useless pretender security Minister, solicitor general Stockwell Day really doing good about all of this now too? Nothing!
Re: Complaint regarding Self regulation of the too many immoral, dishonst professionals it still is generally masturbation mostly
"Canadian professionals over-regulated, says competition report The Canadian Press - Tue Dec 11, 1:26 PM OTTAWA - A new study is recommending Canada's lawyers, real estate agents and other self-regulated professions re-examine their rules to ensure they serve the public good and encourage competition" careful another lying spin doctor at work..
Self regulation of the too many immoral, dishonest professionals is generally masturbation mostly and what is really firstly still needed is the indecent independent reviews of all professionals.
My having worked as a license professional Realtor in Calgary I had clearly noticed that too many of my colleagues next still lied and misrepresented the facts to the customers, and the local real estate manager often knew this but he rarely acted upon it still too, never mind the mostly pretentious real estate board.
The Ontario Law society twice wrote to me and said their lawyers are allowed to lie while doing their jobs... dream on...
So the crooks do not like regulations, being supervised still.. so what? 30 percent of the cities are big liars and crooks and that s why we need and have enforced laws even for professionals. being a professional or having a university degree is no reflection of the person's moral values.. As most of us who have dealt with the much too many bad civil and public servants, lawyers,Realtors, cops, RCMP, accountants, clearly know firsthand too.
Ministers. do your job properly now and do also deal with this rightful complaint now too. Tell them now all to stop this unacceptable practice of lying and also their false cover-ups, masturbation.
How could the technologically advanced new Canadian Conservatives been so dumb
A controversial bill that seeks to reform Canadian copyright laws, expected to be introduced early this week, may be quashed after a groundswell of real citizen opposition erupted over the past week."Michael Geist, the Canada research chair of internet and e-commerce law at the University of Ottawa, has led the charge against the bill and has accused Prentice of caving in to lobbying from U.S. entertainment companies, who are seeking to curtail digital copying in all its forms. He has also accused the minister of ignoring the wishes of regular Canadians and for not including the public in his consultations.Geist started a Facebook group to protest the bill a week ago, which more than 12,000 people have so far joined. On his blog Monday, Geist wrote that the group has resulted in hundreds of letters and phone calls to Prentice and other MPs from every political party. Something exceptional happened this past week. Fair copyright in Canada found its voice," Geist wrote. "It will be silent no more." "
"Canadian netroots rise up against Tory copyright plans Tuesday, December 11, 2007 Kempton Lam, Corey Doctorow, Michael Geist and Howard Knopf aren't exactly familiar names in Ottawa's political power circles. But yesterday, those four -- along with thousands of other Canadians -- managed to throw a spanner into the works of the Harper government. As leaders of an increasingly vocal and organized grassroots cyber-movement against controversial, anticipated changes to the federal Copyright Act, their persistent efforts derailed Industry Minister Jim Prentice's plan to introduce an amended bill this morning. There's no question that over the past several weeks that acute pressure -- much of it below the surface in the world of blogs and chat rooms -- has been building around the copyright file. Cory Doctorow, an activist and editor of the popular blog BoingBoing.net. insists that the apparent emulation of the U.S. model and the huge pressure from the U.S.-based entertainment lobby is a big part of what makes the copyright issue so resonant in Canada."People are asking guys like Jim Prentice who he really works for," he says. "And what recording industry are we protecting when so many Canadian musicians and labels have left the recording industry lobby group.""We will do it a third time, a fourth, a fifth, and forever, until Canada's politicians start drafting balanced copyright laws that protect Canadian artists, scholars, critics, schools, libraries and the public interest," he wrote." A lawyer by training and experience, Mr. Prentice -- who acquired the Industry beat in August -- was apparently poised to take a much harder and more pro-regulation stance. That is, until he got blogged down by the grassroots." even in his own riding, province too.."
"Deborah Johnson from Gatineau, Canada writes: I've been following the debate about the American DMCA for quite a while. I've experienced the annoyance of having downloaded digital music, and then having them crippled by DRM because of licences not being "current". All this does is cause annoyance for the end-consumer. It doesn't protect the artist, at all. So, restrictive copyright laws that echo the defective American example are NOT welcome in my country."
"Word is that the minister had no idea that this would be such a big deal for Canadians," he wrote. "Word is that the minister and his advisers are scrambling, rethinking the entire matter because of the public outcry."
The reality is the vast and quick negative publicity damage against the Conservatives, the Industry Minister Jim Prentice has now already been done, Canada wide and it will negatively influence the future voters likely too. How could the technologically advanced new Conservatives been so dumb to have underestimated the significant power of the Internet communication now too? Or did they underestimate it in fact? Conservatives are already known Canada wide for being bullies who try to deny, suppress the free speech of others, particularly the opposition. But they did clearly not expect they would be vastly opposed.. I have also rightfully said this before the Conservatives and their leader want others to hear their message but it seems they are the first to shut down others free speech, right to be heard in particularly if it is negative against the Conservatives. There has been another reason why Jim Prentice who has the ear of the Pirme Minister Stephe Harper rapidly rushed into, wanted to use the proposed changes to the federal Copyright Act also as an excuse to censor the Internet user's right of free speech it seems, for clearly since the Conservative have been in office the much too many negative complaints against the Conservatives Canada wide is too embaressing for them. "Could this be another attempt to harness and control the Internet? We already are restricted in our access to the world by sites which tell us what is "relevant" for our browsing pleasure. Compare the ease of accessibility of ten years ago to now. Sites such as Google, Yahoo, etc., are worldwide portals into local affairs, portraying of course, only the affairs which are not seen as dissenting or dangerous to the "free" world. Our view of the world is increasingly GROOMED for us on the net as it already is through newspapers and television/radio. The Internet is the last bastion of free speech. Will not this act restrict us, restrict blogs, etc., something the Americans are already living with as bloggers are being jailed?"
Negative letters like this one is what they were first trying to suppress it seems? I have already before openly said that police in Canada still work mainly for the government and not for the citizens, and the Harper Conservatives would like to jail everyone that opposes them..
Harper and his Conservatives came to power with a promise of accountability, it seems reasonable, but perhaps naive, for Canadians to expect an update from our Conservative government as to how they hold bad professionals, bad civil and public servants, bad RCMP and bad cops accountable...
Police Independence in Canada.. what a laugh.. a really big perverse joke
The too often perverse police in Canada claim they are independent only when it comes to someone trying to make them to be held accountable for their past immoral actions but other than that they are too often the lap dog of bad politicians.. a master they try to serve firstly, and not the good welfare of the citizens. I have had the police unacceptably come to my home 6 times in the last 2 decades, not cause I had done anything immoral, criminal but because some bad politicians, Mayor, Premier, Prime minister, wrongfully did not like me to expose his or her's unacceptable sins while in a public office, so the bad politician sent the Police to my home.. and the immoral cops obliged. When the Police came to my home I tend to request that we go public, call some witnesses, such as a news reporter from the Calgary Herald.. and the police try to discourage me but when they see I am serious the police immediately run away..
How are the justice Ministers dealing effectively now with the bad cops and bad RCMP in Canada.. not by wrongfully trying to sleep with them? and that is more false obstruction of real justice.
''Great efforts are made to establish the police as being independent. Operationally they have great latitude to do what they consider should be done for law enforcement without accounting to politicians.''The appearance of the police flanking the Conservatives at their law-and-order announcements ''diminishes the perception of independence and I think the perception is just as important as the reality,'' Ratushny added.''It's a slippery slope and the interface of politicians and the police is very delicate in a democratic society.''RCMP have also been publicly questioned for revealing during last winter's federal election campaign that the force was investigating leaks in Paul Martin's Liberal cabinet, a move that was viewed as a Christmas gift for Harper that aided his election victory.''The precedent of the RCMP engaging in this way should trouble everyone,'' Conservative Senator Hugh Segal wrote in a book published this fall. The Conservatives later came under fire for refusing to fire RCMP Commissioner Giuliano Zaccardelli, despite relentless public pressure following a damning inquiry report that concluded that the Mounties passed inaccurate information to American authorities about Canadian citizen Maher Arar that very likely led to his deportation and torture in a Syrian jail.In the latest event that has sparked a wide outcry, Toews has decided that a seat would be reserved for the law enforcement community on judicial advisory committees in each province that screen contenders for the 1,100-member federal judiciary. Judges, legal scholars and lawyers, including Chief Justice Beverly McLachlin of the Supreme Court of Canada, say that the legal community should have been consulted before the unilateral move, and that special interest groups like the police have no business picking judges because they would tend to endorse candidates with a law-and-order bent. But Toews has refused to back down and it is said that the initiative has Harper's support." and if the dictator Stephen Harper and the others would have it their way they very likley would send to jail anyone that is critcal of the bad Conservative party as well.
No I rightfully do not think cops should have any say in the election of judges, it is us the citizens should have more direct say.
I keep also being embarrassed by the too many media revelations now as to how badly the RCMP performs, the RCMP them being more of a false political tool, to cover up many of the bad acts and not rather firstly to deal with them effectively. When they were in opposition the new Conservative shouted, demanded for full accountability and now because they run the system they wrongfully tend to excuse it, to cover up for it. The most common complaint I do still hear in Canada about politicians is "are there any of them that are not crooked?" of all political parties.. Most people think they are all crooked.. sounds like bad cops.. we seem to have continual evidences in Canada about bad cops acts as well...The PM Stephen Harper had plenty of opportunity to show his good stuff, instead he and his bad colleagues showed they were as bad as the others, they despised the poor persons, abused others, disrespected others human and legal rights, showed false partiality, and helped mostly themselves.. plus they still bashed the others, ran the minority government as though it was a majority government.. One step forward, two steps backwards Stephen Harper has no one to blame but himself. Harper has no chance of forming a majority government.
The thing I still do also rightfully want is that all of the all of the bad guys who abused the tax dollars in the sponsorship scandal as well now are being sent to a real jail as an example of real justice. And any new tax payer's abusers too.. The second thing I want is the RCMP replaced by a real police that will go after all the civil and public servants that do abuse the tax payer's money.. next we can work towards recovering the abused tax money in Ottawa, Ontario, Newfoundland, Quebec, Alberta too.
