I've seen some of these. Some artists do a really fine job but be careful if you plan to buy. Sometimes it's just a conglomeration of watch parts & other do-dads casually glued together.

Well, that's a watch *movement* in a nicely chased silver ring.

clocky-steamy...spoken like a water vapour hooligan.

I do like these,I especially like the spectacles at the link. The side pieces offer much area to inbed/cover circuitry and components that would not fit into ordinary temples.

This trend is KILLING me.

I am a watchmaker. Vintage parts can be so difficult to find. Sure, I can make a screw or cut a new balance staff or stem on a lathe but it's not economical and some vintage freaks eschew custom parts replacements as not being a true restoration.

I do like the aesthetics, I just wish the people making these pieces would think about those of us out there that might really need a replacement train bridge for a Bulova 10AN before they turn it into a broach.

Sorry, 'brooch'! Demonstrates my watch-tool super geek mindset....

Much nicer than the hideous fluorescent painted watch cases of the other day.

Linea, my grandfather was a watchmaker who had literally 10,000 partial movements in his apartment when he died.

is anyone making faux miniature gear trains then?

Alas, many of the old guard watchmakers have left us. Maybe I should be thinking about this differently - that this jewelery is a monument to watchmakers past, right?
What happened to those 10,000 partial movements, anyway? \m/

Linea5, I want you to know that I hear you and totally understand your position. There is nothing in the world more beautiful than a running timepiece. When I buy my lots, the movements are either not working, or rusted beyond repair (which makes for a lovely patina!). They have also already been picked over by people with much more knowledge than I have on the value of old watch parts. If there is anything of value in there, you can be sure that I didn't get it!

I am showcasing the amazing art and architecture of an incredible miniature world. I want my clients to get lost in the details, to wonder at each tiny gear, and to love every little molecule of brass and steel. I don't just randomly glue gears on things, I lift them up and frame them like a rare butterfly specimen.

If you go to my Etsy shop, you will see this disclaimer "No working or antique clocks or watches were harmed in the making of my jewelry. I value the past, and only use items that are at the end of their recycling life."

PS: Regarding comment #2, that is not a chased silver ring. It is silver plated brass. I've been using that finding for several years now, and they just discovered one of my regular suppliers.
