Correction:
The Penguicon was held in Troy, MI. It is about 20 miles East of Novi.
I should know, I saw Randall Munroe, of xkcd there, among many others. He was awesome, of course. I didn't had time to catch the discussion you highlighted, but it sounds like great fodder for my iPod.
It was my first time at Penguicon, but won't be my last. I highly recommend it to open source and scificon fans.
oops, forgot to add my post script stating:
To be fair to Mr. Doctorow, 3 years ago when he was a guest of honor at the Penguicon, it was held in Novi, Mi.
Hey, I appreciate any attempt at accuracy. For most people anything within 100 miles of downtown Detroit is "Detroit". I can't believe I missed that event. Gotta bookmark that for next year.
Since we're discussing where Penguicon is, I'll note that next year it's going to be held in Romulus. (Which, as the community immediately surrounding Detroit Metro Airport, will be much more convenient for people flying in.)
Very True, RossInDetroit,
I hope my correction was not overly harsh sounding. Indeed I aspire to one day be worthy of washing Cory's red cape and goggles.
As a member of the Inter-planetary Federation of Hair Splitters, Perfectionists, and Error Pointers Local 840, I sometimes allow the opportunity to point out a minor error to override little details like etiquette.
In fact were it not for Cory and boingboing, I wouldn't have heard about the Penguicon in the first place.
So much for gratitude.
I was really looking forward to this event, but life got in the way. Oh well, there's always next year.
