I am the Very Model of a Modern SF Novelist

Mary sez, "Jim C. Hines, author of Goblin Quest, has just written lyrics to go with the Gilbert and Sullivan perennial 'Modern Major General' AND he's released them under a Creative Commons license. They are ripe with video potential."
I am the Very Model of a Modern SF Novelist

I am the very model of a modern SF novelist,
I've manuscripts space opera, anime, and fantasist,
I know the kings of fandom and the best flamewars historical
From Andrew Burt to LiveJournal, in order categorical;
I'm very well acquainted too, with matters editorial,
I keep my cover letters brief and never too suctorial,
About rejection etiquette I'm teeming with propriety,
With many cheerful facts about your online notoriety,
I'm very good at worldbuilding and proper use of ansibles;
I know the hyphenated names of beings unpronounceable:
In short, in matters space opera, anime, and fantasist,
I am the very model of a modern SF novelist.

How does one write an anime novel?

"Misaki was a young girl of fairly unremarkable appearance. Green hair, eyes the size of the palms of her hands, and the slightest hint of a mouth. She could have passed for any other girl in the space colony. As she spoke, the scenery disappeared and was replaced by a rush of bright lights moving behind her. Misaki was clearly excited about something."

*Laughs near ZikZak*

*laughs even harder*

Totally sweet dude, used in the non-gendered variant.

Sorry about laughing near you, my aim can be a bit off on occasion.

Also totally sweet are the lyrics to the song. I really quite like this sort of spoof. And doing it to Gilbert and Sullivan is just classic.

-abs still thinks one line of "-abs" has 'abs'-olutely got to better than me typing in all sorts of crap like this.

The meter is RUINED in the first two lines.

Yeah, the second line just doesn't work, and there are lesser violations of meter through forcing unnatural stresses, such as in the third, fourth, and ninth lines, plus stringing lines out with use of "very" in two lines other than the first and last. To a lot of people small offenses against meter like that won't matter (though the second line really is bad), but the problem with pastiching Gilbert's patter songs is that the rhythm is everything, and Gilbert's is always perfect. Like trying to pastiche Dr. Seuss, it's harder than it looks.

I can't help but hear Marcus' voice from Babylon 5 singing this as I read through the lyrics.

(P.S. #8: If it's a capital sin, then why did you write it in lowercase?)

That's not bad, but it doesn't hold a candle to the Animaniacs' "I am the Very Model of a Cartoon Individual"
